“There's the twilight bark. The twilight bark? That's only a gossip chain.”

In 1961, Walt Disney released the animated classic One Hundred and One Dalmatians - based on a novel by Dodie Smith. The story takes place in London, England, and the Twilight Bark is featured as the method of communication used by the dogs to rescue their stolen puppies.

This blog has nothing to do with Dalmatian puppies, I am afraid. Though, it has everything to do with London. Follow me as I spend the next four months exploring Europe as a student and member of the work force.

Mind the Gap

First full day in London, and I must say it was very eventful. I jotted this down earlier this morning - "Holy early morning.  I have no idea what time it is or what time it's supposed to be or what planet I'm on.  All I know is my head hurts and my stomach is turned inside out.  Welcome to the UK?"  Though, I'm happy to report that once I downed a coffee and started walking around, I felt much better.  Let the coffee drinking commence - it's all we can do to keep warm!

I feel like we did so much today - right away we tried to figure the tube out and picked up maps and an oyster card, which is what I will use over and over again until December.

First stop - Trafalgar Square! The picture below was the view from the steps of the National Art Museum.  We got in with just a small suggested donation and spent a little while browsing over all of the art.  I bought some postcards, and mom even bought a print for the bathroom at home.  One thing I noticed in the art museum as I was opening and closing doors was that everyone says cheers instead of thank you and you're welcome... maybe something I should have known already, but hearing it was funny to me for some reason.

We did a lot of walking after the museum - we saw Big Ben up close and personal! We even came across condoms being sold that said "want to see my big ben?" Mom and DIED laughing.  I really should have taken a picture... After a long walk we had a nice lunch, and took the tube home for a nap.  I promptly proceeded to pass out for 3 hours, and then we went out adventuring for umbrellas and dinner.  Fish and Chips! Yum! Mom and I split an order tonight and it was delicious!

Tomorrow we're going to do some more sight seeing, and hopefully get a few errands done (find a phone, and rain coat).

Finally did some video chatting today, and after talking to Ben, Colby, and Leah - I'm feeling a lot better and much less home sick.  Today was move in day for the freshman and Rochester, and I've been missing school and everyone along with it.  I love love love you all.

Until next time.
